With Thanksgiving just around the corner, thoughts turn to gratitude – acknowledging, appreciating and celebrating friends, family, health and more. On the job search front, there are trends to appreciate as well.
- Social Recruiting is on the rise.
According to the 2015 Jobvite Recruiter Nation Survey, “only 4% of recruiters don’t use social media in the recruiting process.” If you’re not on social, and making productive, proactive use of it, you’re at a disadvantage. Keep your profiles professional and up-to-date. LinkedIn is a must for every job seeker. You can also use Facebook, Twitter and even Instagram to showcase your best self.
- Hiring in some areas is on the increase
If you’re in hospitality, healthcare, telecommunications, construction or are a driver, you’re in high demand. Think those fields are not for you? Think again. Information technology, marketing professionals and many others can find openings in multiple industries. Keep an open mind when it comes to your target companies.
- Referrals really rock
That old saying “it’s who you know” is more important than ever. 78% of recruiters find their best quality candidates through referrals, up 60% from 2014.* As a job seeker, it’s important to tap into your network. A referral from a friend, acquaintance or connection could help you get your foot in the door.
Think about these three trends as your approach your job search strategy for the rest of the year and the beginning of the New Year!
- Bonus tip – between the feast and the football, remember that your job search should not take a holiday between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day! You can still enjoy the festivities, but don’t abandon your search. Budgets are still being determined and put in place. While recruiting activity may slow, it does not stop. Keep forging ahead – your dream job could be just around the corner in 2016!
